On September 3, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Liu Jian, Chairman of HBIS Group Co., Ltd.. President Vučić's visit to China was to attend the commemorative activities marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. During the meeting, both sides reviewed existing cooperation achievements and focused on exchanging views on topics including the establishment of a China-Serbia joint laboratory and future development plans.
Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming and former Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić, Chairman of the China-Serbia-Russia Governmental Cooperation Committee, attended the meeting.
President Vučić highly commended HBIS Group's significant contributions to Serbia's economic and social development. He noted that President Xi Jinping's visit to the Smederevo Steel Plant during his 2016 trip to Serbia remains unforgettable. Since investing in the plant, HBIS has taken root in Serbia, creating thousands of local jobs. The establishment of the China-Serbia Joint Laboratory will significantly boost production capacity and improve manufacturing processes. As one of Serbia's largest foreign investors, HBIS has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the country's industrial development, with this partnership becoming a vital pillar of Serbia's industrial system. The Serbian government will continue supporting HBIS to jointly advance the sustainable development of HBIS Serbia.
Liu Jian expressed gratitude for the Serbian government's long-standing support and provided an update on the progress of the China-Serbia Joint Laboratory. He noted that through the laboratory's technological breakthroughs, HBIS and Serbian Steel has achieved phased results in enhancing comprehensive energy efficiency and optimizing its high-end customer structure. HBIS will continue to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, maintain the sound operation of HBIS and Serbian Steel, fully leverage the functions of the joint laboratory, actively promote joint project R&D and talent exchange programs, and contribute to building a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era through pragmatic cooperation.
Representatives from TangSteel Group and HBIS Materials Research Institute, along with officials from relevant Serbian departments, attended the meeting.
