Global crude steel production fell by 4.2 percentage year-on-year in March 2026

According to the latest data released by the World Steel Association, crude steel production in the 69 countries and regions included in the association’s statistics totaled 159.9 million metric tons in March 2026, a 4.2% year-on-year decline.


Crude Steel Output by Region


In March 2026, Africa’s crude steel output was 2.2 million tons, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year; Asia and Oceania’s crude steel output was 119.3 million tons, a decrease of 3.9% year-on-year; the EU (27 countries)’s crude steel output was 11.4 million tons, a decrease of 4.6% year-on-year; other European countries’ crude steel output was 3.8 million tons, an increase of 4.9% year-on-year; Crude steel production in the Middle East was 3.5 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 33.5%; in North America, it was 9.5 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%; in Russia, other CIS countries, and Ukraine, it was 6.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.9%; and in South America, it was 3.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%.
The data submitted by the above 69 countries and regions accounts for approximately 98% of global crude steel production in 2025. Countries and regions included in the table:

In March 2026, China’s estimated crude steel production was 87.04 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 6.3%; India’s crude steel production was 15.30 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%; U.S. crude steel production was 7.2 million tons, up 5.2% year-on-year; Japan’s crude steel production was 6.9 million tons, down 4.1% year-on-year; South Korea’s crude steel production was 5.4 million tons, up 1.5% year-on-year; Russia’s estimated crude steel production was 5.4 million tons, down 11.4% year-on-year; Turkey’s crude steel production was 3.3 million metric tons, up 6.4% year-on-year; Germany’s crude steel production was 3.3 million metric tons, up 7.5% year-on-year; Brazil’s crude steel production was 2.8 million metric tons, down 2.5% year-on-year; Vietnam’s estimated crude steel production was 2.2 million metric tons, up 5.7% year-on-year.
