Recently, the 3800mm wide and thick plate lean production line of Guangxi Steel Hot Rolling Plant successfully passed the acceptance inspection by the review group composed of relevant functional departments of the company and 3A consultants. This acceptance inspection combined on-site verification with special reports. The review team conducted a systematic evaluation of key aspects such as production organization, equipment management, team building, and on-site governance. The team ultimately confirmed that the production line met the standards, marking a phased achievement in the lean management of the production line. This provides replicable and scalable practical experience for the construction of lean production lines in various units of the group, and further helps to implement the "Lean Liugang" initiative.
It is reported that the construction of this lean production line started in December 2024. After a year of continuous improvement, it has achieved significant breakthroughs in multiple dimensions: In terms of on-site management, a normalized inspection and maintenance mechanism has been established, and the lean transformation of 86 grid areas has been completed, resulting in a comprehensive improvement in the working environment and order; In terms of equipment management, through standardized maintenance and "two-source" control measures, a total of 172 pollution source treatments have been completed, increasing the effective operating rate of the units to 93% and continuously enhancing operational stability; In terms of team building, standardized operations have been promoted to clarify job responsibilities, and in 2025, 9 teams have passed the star-rating certification of Liugang Group, including 6 two-star teams, demonstrating significant achievements in work efficiency and team building.
In terms of production efficiency and product quality, the production line achieves stable production of high-quality specialty steels by optimizing production organization and process control. High-quality ship plates have been certified by classification societies in eight countries, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Norway, achieving full coverage of high-quality specialty steels. Since 2025, specialty steels have accounted for 61.64% of the total steel production, and the profitability has steadily improved. Meanwhile, through systematic review and benchmarking, the production line identified 35 key improvement projects, resulting in quantifiable cost reductions exceeding ten million yuan. By optimizing production scheduling and precisely controlling rolling speed and plate shape, production efficiency increased by 8.54%, successfully achieving the goal of improving quality and efficiency.
This acceptance inspection is not only a comprehensive test of the achievements in building the 3800mm wide and thick plate lean production line, but also an important milestone for the hot rolling mill to deepen lean management. Next, the hot rolling mill will continue to consolidate existing achievements, expand the scope of lean management, and promote the extension of lean concepts and practices to other production lines to comprehensively improve production management level and overall efficiency.
