"I declare the delivery and dispatch of high-manganese wear-resistant steel (Introduction), an advanced steel material, from Henan Iron and Steel Group's Anyang base!" Cheng Guanjiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Henan Iron and Steel Group, announced at a successful delivery ceremony for the integrated mass production of high-manganese wear-resistant steel from the Anyang base's "smelting and rolling" system on the morning of July 20th. Amidst warm applause and a flurry of fireworks, the convoy loaded with the Mn13 series of high-manganese wear-resistant steel slowly departed for its destination.
The delivered high-manganese wear-resistant steel Mn13 series products achieve multiple industry technological breakthroughs, enabling continuous casting using the world's widest slab caster and successfully rolling 6mm products on a 3500mm Steckel line. This product fills a gap in the Anyang base's expertise in key high-end materials and marks a significant advancement for the Group in the research and development of advanced steel materials. Going forward, the Anyang base will focus on the goal of "building a leading specialty steel company in niche areas and advancing toward a leading position in advanced steel materials." The focus will be on the R&D and promotion of four major specialty steel categories: manganese, nickel, rare earth, and silicon, accelerating its progress toward a leading position in advanced new materials.
The high-manganese wear-resistant steel Mn13 series is primarily used in mining machinery, metallurgical equipment, construction machinery, and coal mining machinery, with significant demand in the mining and metallurgical industries. This product, with its high alloy content and challenging smelting, has traditionally relied on a two-stage process involving die casting and slab casting. The Anyang base has significantly strengthened its independent development efforts, overcoming numerous technical bottlenecks and achieving the first domestic rolling of wedge-cast Mn15Cr1 and Mn23AlV ingots on a 2800 mill unit, with the thinnest gauge reaching 6mm. In early 2025, the first successful trial rolling of high-manganese non-magnetic wear-resistant steel Mn13 was conducted using a combination of a 150-ton converter, double refining (LF/VD), a 3250mm wide slab caster, and a 3500mm Steckel mill, resulting in smooth delivery of the rolled products in a series of gauges: 30mm, 12mm, 10mm, 8mm, and 6mm.
