  • Why is there such a large price difference for stainless steel pipes?

The price of stainless steel pipes is primarily influenced by their raw material, stainless steel alloy. Stainless steel, as an alloy material, is mainly composed of elements such as carbon, iron, chromium, and nickel. However, different contents and proportions of these elements can lead to significant differences in the properties of stainless steel, thus directly affecting its market price. High-purity raw materials are usually more expensive because their extraction and refining processes are more complex and require more energy and technological investment. This directly increases the production cost of stainless steel.

Performance and price of different materials: 304 stainless steel: This is a widely used type of stainless steel, favored for its good corrosion resistance and processing performance. The chromium and nickel content in 304 stainless steel is moderate, which meets the needs of most applications while maintaining a relatively reasonable price.

316 stainless steel: Compared with 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel contains a higher nickel content and a small amount of molybdenum, which makes it more resistant to corrosion, especially in seawater and certain chemical environments. Therefore, 316 stainless steel is usually more expensive.

In addition to raw material costs, high-purity raw materials may also have an indirect impact on production costs. For example, high-purity raw materials may require more refined processing and quality control procedures to ensure the stable and reliable performance of the final product. These additional processing and testing steps will increase production costs.

When selecting stainless steel pipes, customers should pay attention to their actual quality and performance. Some unscrupulous merchants may sell low-cost alternative steel pipes as stainless steel, which will affect the performance and safety of stainless steel pipes. When faced with a stainless steel pipe market with huge price differences, do not make a decision based solely on price, but rather take into account quality, performance, service, and long-term value.

  • We plan to purchase a batch of hot-dip galvanized steel sheets. Given that our previous suppliers failed to meet our material performance requirements, we have strict standards for the corrosion resistance, galvanized layer quality, and processing performance of the sheets this time. Can you provide a detailed material certificate that meets the relevant standards to ensure that the chemical composition and mechanical properties are up to standard? Can you guarantee the bending performance? We need to confirm that when the sheet metal is processed at a specific bending radius, there will be no zinc layer peeling or micro-cracks.

I purchased galvanized steel sheets from their company earlier this year. They provide raw material certificates with clearly stated chemical composition and mechanical properties (yield strength, tensile strength, etc.), fully compliant with national standards. The adhesion between their material substrate and zinc coating is excellent; as long as your mold and process parameters are appropriate, there have been almost no instances of large-area zinc coating peeling or noticeable micro-cracks during bending.

If you're still concerned, I strongly suggest they send a sample for testing first. That's what we did; we bent it a few times, tested the zinc coating, and once the results came back, we had a clear understanding of its quality.

  • Why should an arch be reserved during the construction of corrugated culverts?

Corrugated culverts buried in ordinary soil foundations often experience a certain degree of subsidence after a period of time, and the subsidence is usually greater in the middle of the pipe than at both ends.
Therefore, the corrugated culvert pipes laid under the embankment should have an upward pre-camber in the middle. The pre-camber is determined by a comprehensive consideration of factors such as the potential settlement of the foundation, the longitudinal slope of the culvert bottom, and the height of the fill. It is usually 0.3% to 1% of the pipe length, and the maximum is no more than 2%, to ensure that no depression or landslide occurs in the middle of the pipe.
