Galvanized Seamless Steel Pipe

Galvanized seamless Steel pipe is a product combining seamless steel pipe substrate with the hot-dip galvanizing process. It inherits the inherent advantages of seamless steel pipe, such as strong pressure resistance and structural integrity, while significantly improving corrosion resistance through the galvanized layer. It is an ideal choice for high-quality, long-life pipeline projects.

Galvanized seamless pipe is a steel pipe product that uses seamless steel pipe as substrate and forms a zinc alloy coating on its inner and outer surfaces through a hot-dip galvanizing process. Seamless steel pipes are steel pipes formed by piercing a single round steel bar, with no weld seams on the surface.
The core process of galvanized seamless pipes is hot-dip galvanizing. Appendix A of GB/T 8163-2018 clearly stipulates that hot-dip galvanizing should be used for galvanizing steel pipes.

The difference between hot dip galvanizing and cold dip galvanizing

Hot-dip galvanizing process flow:
Black pipe (seamless steel pipe) → Alkali washing → Water washing → Pickling → Rinsing with clean water → Immersion in flux (ammonium chloride/zinc chloride solution) → Drying → Hot-dip galvanizing (zinc bath temperature 450±5℃) → External blowing → Internal blowing → Air cooling → Water cooling → Passivation → Water rinsing → Inspection → Weighing → Warehousing

Key Process Parameters:

Zinc bath temperature: Strictly controlled at 450±5℃
Pre-plating treatment: Pickling to remove iron oxide from the steel pipe surface; flux to activate the pipe surface.
Post-plating treatment: External and internal blowing to remove excess zinc bath; passivation treatment to enhance corrosion resistance.

Zinc plating layer technical requirements
Coating weight: The total weight per unit area of the zinc plating layer on both the inner and outer surfaces should not be less than 300g/㎡.
Higher requirement option: Subject to negotiation between the supplier and the buyer, a minimum of 500g/㎡ can be required.
Theoretical weight calculation: The theoretical weight per unit length after galvanizing is calculated according to the standard formula, with an added zinc plating layer weight coefficient.

Core Performance Characteristics
1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The galvanized layer forms a dual mechanism of physical barrier and electrochemical protection on the steel pipe surface, resulting in corrosion resistance far superior to ordinary seamless steel pipes. High-quality hot-dip galvanized seamless pipes have an average zinc layer thickness ≥70μm, and can withstand ≥500h of neutral salt spray testing without red rust.
2. High Strength and High Pressure Bearing Capacity: The base material is seamless steel pipe, eliminating the weak point of weld seams, resulting in significantly higher pressure bearing capacity than welded steel pipes of the same specifications. Taking 20# as an example: tensile strength 410~550MPa, yield strength ≥245MPa, elongation after fracture ≥24%.
3. Strong Coating Adhesion: Hot-dip galvanizing forms a metallurgically bonded zinc-iron alloy layer with excellent adhesion. A 180° bending test (D=2a) shows no peeling or cracking of the zinc layer.
4. Fully Galvanized Inner and Outer Walls: High-quality products achieve complete galvanization of both inner and outer walls, forming a fully encapsulated zinc layer, eliminating corrosion dead zones.
5. Excellent machinability. Supports secondary processing such as grooving, slotting, and threading to meet engineering installation requirements. Each finished pipe undergoes 100% eddy current testing and 100% hydrostatic testing, ensuring reliable quality.

Galvanized seamless steel pipes, with their excellent corrosion resistance and pressure-bearing capacity, are widely used in the following fields:

1. Fluid Transportation: Water supply and drainage pipeline systems; Natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas transportation; Industrial water and gas supply systems; High-pressure fluid transportation
2. Petrochemical Industry: High-pressure oil and gas transportation pipelines; Chemical equipment pipeline systems
3. Fire Protection Engineering: Fire-fighting water supply pipelines
4. Underground Corrosion Protection Pipelines: Corrosion protection for buried pipelines
5. Machinery and Structures: Mechanical structural components; Tunnel support; Hydraulic pipeline systems for engineering machinery
6. Other Fields: Construction, automotive, aerospace; Nuclear power, pressure vessels

Galvanized seamless steel pipes combine the high pressure resistance of seamless steel pipes with the excellent corrosion resistance of hot-dip galvanized coatings, making them widely used in fluid transportation, petrochemicals, fire protection engineering, and underground anti-corrosion pipelines. When purchasing, it is crucial to distinguish between galvanized seamless pipes and galvanized welded steel pipes, and to clearly specify the base material standards, galvanized coating requirements, and specifications in the contract.
