300 series cold-rolled stainless steel coils are high-precision, high-quality stainless steel products made from 300 series hot-rolled coils through processes such as cold rolling, annealing, pickling, and leveling at room temperature.
Compared to hot-rolled coils, cold-rolled coils offer thinner thicknesses, more precise dimensional tolerances, superior surface quality, and higher strength and hardness. 300 series stainless steel is a chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel, characterized by a high nickel (Ni) content (typically above 8%), which endows the material with excellent corrosion resistance, good processing performance, and comprehensive mechanical properties. It is the most produced and widely used series of austenitic stainless steels.

300 series cold-rolled coils encompass numerous grades, with 304 and 316/316L being the two most core and common series.
The 300 series also includes special-purpose grades such as 301 (low nickel, high nitrogen, 301 Stainless Steel (higher strength, significant work hardening), 301L (low carbon, high strength), 309/310S (high temperature resistance), and 321 (titanium stabilized, resistant to intergranular corrosion).
301 Stainless Steel
Properties: Compared to 304 steel, it has lower Cr and Ni content. Cold rolling improves tensile strength. It is originally non-magnetic, but becomes magnetic after cold rolling.
Applications: Trains, airplanes, conveyor belts, vehicles, bolts, nuts, springs, and clockwork.
301L Stainless Steel
Properties: Based on 301 steel, it reduces carbon content to improve resistance to intergranular corrosion in welded areas. Nitrogen is added to address the strength reduction caused by low carbon content.
Applications: Railway vehicle frames and exterior trim materials.
310S Stainless Steel
Properties: Good resistance to intergranular corrosion, excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion, and good resistance to high-temperature oxidation.
Applications: Used in the manufacture of furnace tubes, boiler superheaters, and heat exchanger fittings.
321 Stainless Steel
Characteristics: Based on 304 steel, titanium (Ti) is added to prevent grain boundary corrosion. Suitable for use in temperatures ranging from 430°C to 900°C.
Applications: Aircraft exhaust pipes, boilers, heat exchangers.

300 series cold-rolled coils offer diverse surface treatments to meet different application requirements:

Hardness Conditions
Grades such as 301 can achieve different hardness levels by controlling the amount of cold rolling deformation:
ANN (DDQ): For deep drawing, soft state
1/4H, 1/2H, 3/4H: Different hardness levels
H (fully hard), EH (extra hard), SH (very hard): High hardness state
Mechanical Properties

1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance: This is the biggest advantage of the 300 series compared to the 200 series. The chromium oxide film formed on the surface effectively resists the corrosion of the atmosphere, food processing media, and various inorganic compounds.
2. Excellent processing performance: It possesses good room-temperature processing properties such as stamping and bending, and does not harden after heat treatment.
3. Good weldability: Low-carbon grades such as 304L and 316L exhibit excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion.
4. Diverse mechanical properties: Strength and hardness can be significantly improved through cold deformation processing to meet various application scenarios.
Limitations:
Corrosion may occur in concentrated acid and high-temperature chloride environments.
Grades such as 301 may exhibit magnetism after cold rolling.

300 series cold rolling technology is developing towards ultra-thin profiles. Benxi Steel has successfully trial-produced 0.2mm wide ultra-thin SUS304 cold-rolled products; 316L can provide precision coils with a thickness of 0.03mm.
Due to its superior comprehensive performance, the application of 300 series cold-rolled coils continues to expand in high-end fields such as new energy vehicles, precision electronics, and medical devices.
Compared to 200 series cold-rolled coils, the 300 series is more expensive, but its performance (especially corrosion resistance) is comprehensively superior. Choosing 300 series cold-rolled coils essentially means paying a premium for corrosion resistance, processing reliability, and product quality—in scenarios with stringent requirements for performance and reliability, such as food, medical, chemical, and marine industries, the 300 series is an irreplaceable solution.
