In August 2025, China Exported 9.51 Million Tons of Steel

The national import and export commodity volume data released by the General Administration of Customs on September 8 showed that China exported 9.51 million tons of steel in August 2025, a decrease of 326,000 tons from the previous month, a decrease of 3.3% from the previous month. From January to August, the cumulative export of steel was 77.49 million tons, an increase of 10.0% year-on-year.

In August, my country imported 500,000 tons of steel, an increase of 48,000 tons from the previous month, a month-on-month increase of 10.6%; the cumulative steel imports from January to August were 3.977 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.1%.

In August, my country imported 105.225 million tons of iron ore and its concentrates, an increase of 602,000 tons month-on-month, a month-on-month increase of 0.6%. From January to August, China imported 801.618 million tons of iron ore and its concentrates, down 1.6% year-on-year.

In August, China imported 42.737 million tons of coal and lignite, an increase of 7.128 million tons from the previous month, a month-on-month increase of 20.0%; the cumulative imports of coal and lignite from January to August were 299.937 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.2%.
