HBIS Group's 327mm High-End Extra-Thick Marine Engineering Steel Sets New Record

Recently, HBIS Group's Wugang Company produced 327mm thick EH36 ship plate steel (Prices), setting a new record for EH36 steel plate thickness and filling a domestic gap. This is another breakthrough following the development of 297mm EH36 steel plate several months ago. After inspection, the product met all the standards in terms of thickness, surface quality, and performance, and will be used in key parts of a 5600-ton full-slewing crane.

From 297 mm to 327 mm, the increase in thickness leads to a significant increase in the temperature difference between the core and surface of the steel plate, and the difficulty of controlling the uniformity of the structure and the low-temperature toughness increases exponentially. To meet customer needs, Wugang's R&D team innovatively adopted a composite process of "precision rolling + special cooling + special treatment" to solve common technical problems in the industry, such as matching the strength and toughness of ultra-thick steel plates and ensuring uniform performance across the entire thickness, thus ensuring that all indicators of the steel plates are superior to the requirements of national standards and classification society specifications.
