On August 12, 2025, Guangxi Steel's 3800mm wide and heavy plate rolling line, for which Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as CERI) provided EPS design and equipment, achieved a major technological breakthrough: successfully trial-rolling ultra-thin, wide steel plates measuring just 6mm thick, 3120mm wide, and over 44m long. Testing confirmed the product's excellent surface finish, thickness tolerance, and plate shape control accuracy reached internationally advanced levels, and its mechanical properties fully met technical standards. This achievement marks my country's entry into the ranks of world leaders in ultra-thin wide and heavy plate rolling, providing key technical support for Liuzhou Iron and Steel Group's product upgrades.

Systematic breakthroughs in core technologies have been achieved.

Rolling ultra-thin, wide and heavy plates of 6mm or less has long been considered a "forbidden zone" in the industry, posing extreme challenges to equipment capabilities, control accuracy, and process quality. CERI Engineering & Research has innovatively developed eight core technology systems:

  • High-precision rolling and shape control technology
  • Intelligent rapid roll change system
  • High-efficiency double-sided shearing/cut-to-length shearing technology
  • New high-speed dust removal device
  • Fully automatic control system for the cold zone
  • High-precision variable frequency drive technology
  • Optimized shearing yield improvement system
  • Stepless rolling line height adjustment technology

Equipment performance reaches internationally leading levels. 

As the full-process equipment supplier for this production line, CERI Engineering & Research's twin-stand rolling mill demonstrates outstanding performance:

  • Rolling force reaches 85,000 kN, with a rigidity exceeding 9,000 kN/mm
  • A 2200mm φ monolithic cast arch and large-diameter backup rolls combine to achieve high single-pass reduction.
  • A patented hydraulic high-pressure gas (HAGC) system ensures thickness accuracy of ±0.02mm.
  • The second-generation roll bending/shifting device utilizes multiple independently patented technologies, improving operational stability by 40%.

A new era of high-end products begins.

 The project overcame world-class rolling challenges just eight months after commissioning, demonstrating the line's comprehensive capabilities for producing extreme-specification products and laying the foundation for the development of strategic products such as aircraft carrier steel and nuclear power containment vessels. CERI, upholding its mission as the "national team for heavy plate," will continue to promote innovation in wide and heavy plate technology in my country, contributing to the independent development of high-end steel materials.
