General Administration of Customs: China exported 9.498 million metric tons of steel in April

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs on May 9th, China exported 9.498 million tons of steel in April 2026, an increase of 363,000 tons, or 4.0%, month-on-month. From January to April, cumulative steel exports reached 34.214 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.7%.

In April, my country imported 465,000 tons of steel, a decrease of 47,000 tons, or 9.2%, month-on-month. From January to April, cumulative steel imports reached 1.804 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 13.4%.

In April, my country imported 103.854 million tons of iron ore and its concentrates, a decrease of 889,000 tons, or 0.8%, month-on-month. From January to April, China imported 418.587 million tons of iron ore and its concentrates, an increase of 8.0% year-on-year.

In April, my country imported 2.352 million tons of copper ore and its concentrates, a decrease of 278,000 tons, or 10.6%, month-on-month. From January to April, China imported 9.915 million tons of copper ore and its concentrates, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%.

In April, China imported 33.083 million tons of coal and lignite, a month-on-month decrease of 5.976 million tons, or 15.3%; cumulative imports of coal and lignite from January to April totaled 149.36 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%.
