Recently, Baosteel successfully completed the first batch of production and shipment of its independently developed large-diameter, low-temperature resistant, and high-toughness CO₂ seamless steel pipes (Prices). These pipes will be used in a benchmark-level integrated CCUS (Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization, and Storage) project in China.
Once put into operation, the product will strongly support oilfields in improving oil recovery rates, promote green and low-carbon development in oilfields, and provide crucial material support for the national "dual-carbon" goals.
CO₂ Media Properties:
Unlike conventional natural gas, CO₂ media possesses unique pressure drop and phase change properties, posing extremely stringent challenges to the safe service performance of transmission pipelines. Compared to ordinary natural gas transmission pipelines, CO₂ transmission pipelines have higher standards set for the low-temperature toughness of pipe materials during the design phase.
Extreme operating conditions requirements:
Even under extreme operating conditions such as pressure drop or leakage in the pipeline, the pipe material must still stably meet the safety design threshold to effectively avoid safety risks.
Facing the challenges of large supply volume and tight delivery cycle
Baosteel leveraged its integrated production, sales, and research advantages: It established a dedicated production, sales, and research team for the project. Marketing and R&D were closely connected from the early stages of project initiation to identify user needs and dynamically update them. R&D quickly selected materials and iterated and optimized solutions based on users' requirements for low-temperature resistance and high toughness. Manufacturing developed a high-purity, finely organized, and fully controlled solution for key process parameters affecting low-temperature toughness. Marketing coordinated the overall project advancement, ultimately ensuring high-quality and stable project delivery.
Breakthrough in process design: The Special Steel Technology Center for Steel Pipes innovatively adopts a new alloying scheme combined with a material and process control design approach with high toughness structure. This not only improves the overall performance of the pipe but also enhances the process stability of mass production, ensuring the service safety of long-distance pipelines from the source of materials.
The batch delivery of this large-diameter L415Q CO₂ seamless steel pipe (Introduction) marks a key breakthrough for Baosteel in the field of CCUS conveyor pipes.
In the future, Baosteel will continue to focus on the research and development and manufacturing of low-carbon special steel pipes, using its core pipe technology to help the oil and gas industry achieve green transformation and continuously provide core industrial support for the high-quality development of the national "dual-carbon" industry.
