Hot work dies include hot forging dies, die casting dies and hot extrusion dies. Since they are heated by high-temperature metal during work, they must maintain high strength and wear resistance at high temperatures.
In the usual heat treatment technical standards, only the hardness requirements are often stated, and other performance indicators are not clearly stated. Other performance indicators are only implicit in the premise of hot working dies. The realization of these indicators in the actual production process requires control of the process.
In the heat treatment process, due to insufficient heating temperature and insulation time, the alloy elements in the die steel are not fully austenite, and the quenching and tempering structure will have insufficient tempering, insufficient high temperature resistance, poor red hardness, cracking, early cracking, deformation and other defects in the die during use.
At present, it is very common for heat treatment of hot working dies in external processing corporations to use hardness as the standard. It is necessary to control the production process to make the workpiece fully insulated, and the heat treatment process is based on meeting the red hardness as the standard. It cannot be considered that the hardness requirement is a qualified die.
