Breaking the Record Again! Anyang Iron and Steel Successfully Produces Ultra-Thin 5mm Plate Products

On March 12, the first ultra-thin 5mm plate product produced by the 2800mm unit of Anyang successfully rolled off the production line. This successful result can not only increase the group company's panel product lineup but also inject a strong impetus into the production line varieties' creativity and efficiency.

The 2800mm unit was completed and put into operation in 1996. It is an important medium-thick plate production line of the company. Over the past 20 years since its operation, this unit has undergone multiple equipment upgrades and process innovations, which have effectively made up for the shortcomings of backward equipment and made a qualitative leap in rolling capacity. Especially the refining and rolling operation department has increased its efforts in product development and continuously challenged products with extreme specifications since last year. In November 2023, the 2800mm unit successfully rolled 6mm thin specifications products and quickly achieved mass production. After successfully opening up the 6mm thin specification product market, this operating department continues to break its limits.

For a relatively advanced Steckel rolling mill, rolling a 5mm plate is still not an easy job, let alone a 2800mm rolling mill that has been in operation for more than 20 years and does not have a coiling furnace. Secondly, rolling work should be strictly controlled in many aspects, such as rolling rhythm, rolling temperature, rolling accuracy, rolling mill stiffness, flatness control, etc. To complete the task, the refining and rolling operation department carried out targeted research from aspects of equipment operation, production organization, process technology, etc., innovatively formulated target values for key process parameters, implemented precise process control, and at the same time strengthened billet management and assigned dedicated personnel to take charge of the continuous casting process. For the supply of 5mm blanks, we strictly control the cutting surface of the blanks and strive to ensure that the blanks have no cutting slag, misalignment, and burrs to ensure the successful rolling of 5mm products.
